The Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on a North Korean hacking organization often used by hackers to launder money and buy illegal goods online.

The sanctions target the "Lizard Squad," a small group of hackers who often defame legitimate websites with ads for stolen goods, such as weapons and toys.

The US Treasury has announced new sanctions against "Lizard Squad" and its leaders, including 22-year-old hacker Ryan Marks, for their role in the "Rendition-Gate" hack scandal, in which the group stole information from the computers of US and foreign government officials.

Sanctions against Lizard Squad will limit their ability to use cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Lite.

On Friday, the Treasury Department announced formal sanctions against a North Korean-linked cryptocurrency exchange that was used to launder millions of dollars in illicit funds.

The action against Mixin, which was linked to the Lazarus Group, a hacking group that has been linked to several high-profile hacking and hacking attempts, follows today's announcement by the Treasury Department of new sanctions targeting a North Korean cryptocurrency mixer being used by hackers to steal millions of dollars from American victims.

The sanctions, targeting a North Korean company and two North Korean individuals, were the latest move by the Trump administration to hit the country over its ongoing cyberattacks. The new sanctions also target Xunlei, a Beijing-based company that provides computer services and software, including a platform for digital asset dealers to buy and sell coins.
